Hispanic Heritage Celebration 2008!  

 

The 2008 Noche de Gala Awards Dinner Dance celebrating “Excellence in Education”  honored three distinguished individuals who have contributed their volunteer time and efforts to the Latino community of Monroe County: Alberto Cardelle, Ph.D.; Amilcar Arroyo; and Billie Andrews. Dr. Cardelle received the Latino Leadership Award in recognition of his efforts to promote unity in the Latino community through his work as member of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs, and as an advisor to local community organizations. 

 

Noche de Gala 2008 also honored Amilcar Arroyo, editor of El Mensajero Newspaper— one of the first Spanish-language weeklies in the Greater Pocono area, and Billie Andrews, general manager of the Chateau Resort and Conference Center. 

Amilcar received the community recognition award for giving journalistic voice to the Latino community, and for always saying “presente.” 

 

Billie received the corporate recognition award for helping to make the 2007 and 2008 Noche de Gala dinners possible through her philanthropy, generosity and support. We commend her and the Chateau Resort and Conference Center for reaching out to the Latino community. Together they are setting a corporate standard for inclusion and cross-cultural understanding in Monroe County.
